Copenhagen based band Efterklang's latest album, 'Magic Chairs' dropped late last month on 4AD. The band are currently touring in support of their new release. I caught them as they performed at Toronto's El Mocambo on March 6th, a seriously enjoyable evening.

The club was packed, the energy electric, these guys have a wonderfully sunny disposition that is infectious. There was a terrible noise coming from the venue above and Casper Clausen, the bands front man, made jokes about it feeling like they were playing at a big festival competing with other noise from bands...he milked the situation with a positive attitude, and made the audience feel less irritated by the racket pumping down from up above.

The backing band (which included bloggertronix fave Frederik Teige), were brilliant and super tight. Each musician is a talented soul who manages to meld and vibe together perfectly. Carefully orchestrated pieces that are as much about the silences between beats, as they are about the soaring harmonious choruses and poetic verses...truly amazing to see live.

Back when they were called 'The Epochs' We loved their snappy, soaring pop music, now they're called 'Bluebrain' and we're even more in love with their similar, yet re-vamped and uber pumped up sound.

Hays and Ryan Holladay are two self taught, musical brothers who front Bluebrain, their music is clever, their voices beautifully different.

This video is for the song 'Funny Business' taken from the bands debut album 'Soft Power'. It was directed by Chase Heavener and produced by 'Fiction'.

The lads released an Ep entitled 'Cult Following' last fall, and are dropping their debut, 'Soft Power' this month. Check the above links for more info and stay tuned here for an album review.

Dessa is currently on tour with P.O.S with dates across the US, and a few Canadian spots set for mid-March. 'Badly Broken Code' is her debut full length and features her signature smart spitting and smooth rich vocals, over Jazzy dark beats.

As the only female in the Doomtree Family (P.O.S, Mike Mictlan & Paper Tiger), Dessa has really carved herself a nice niche and represents, with a fire and passion to match any male counterpart.

I first heard about her live spoken word shows in Minneapolis a few years back, rooted around for more live footage of her online, and was inspired to put together this page for women such as she, bright, spunky, questioning women of action...If you can get out and see her live, do it!

Give me more Wild women!

Gaggle have got some major love from London based music mag NME...and it's not hard to see why.

Raw female vocals, balls to the wall attitude, and a sound that's larger, and more organic than most of the crud blocking up the airwaves, all these points guarantee that any audience will be pleasantly floored whilst listening to these twenty odd ladies.

Yes, I love my candy coated electro-glitch bands too, but serve me up an audio delicacy, an alt-girl choir with enough energy to drain a small army, and I'll be happier than a pig in poop!! Yeah, it's just that refreshing!

A few days ago the troupe, founded by Deborah Coughlin, had a release show for the single 'I Hear Flies' at a church, the following video is for that song.

If you're looking for forward thinking, unique artists that explore electronic music in familiar and yet different ways, if you're looking for fresh concepts, new takes on old formats and formulas, look no further than these two lads.

We've mentioned Berlin based 'pOnk' in the past, due to his work with Bloggertronix spotlight artists 'Oliver Grimball' and 'OY'. We dig his minimalistic approach to electronic music, his simple yet sophisticated hip hop beats, experimental post-rock edge and heart warming lyrics. He recently teamed up with another stellar, like-minded artist from Japan, Daisuke Tanabe, to create a split ep entitled 'Wool and Water'/ 'Split Shot'.

The e.p not only features some brilliant audio treats (6 tracks from pOnk, 7 from Daisuke), but is also visually appealing and stand apart.

Go down into the basement and root out that old tape player, you're going to need it to play this release as it was dropped earlier this month on a cassette tape only.

What a brilliant night! On Saturday, the 13th of September I headed over to Brooklyn's 'Southpaw' to see London's 'Ebony Bones' perform. I didn't know much about the opening acts but was pleasantly surprised by the music that greeted me.

First up Brooklyn based band 'Monogold'. I'd heard a few of their tracks before, but live they were killer! This 3 piece outfit that create snappy pop music, with atmospheric reverb drenched vocals (think fellow New Yorkers Grizzly bear, Animal Collective & Bluebrain).

The bands drummer was tight and the songs well crafted...but the lads needed to work on their stage presence and between song banter...Not once did they mention who they are were...so I had to ask...Yeah, I was that girl.

Next up was Jessica 6, I heard the bands first song which was great, the vocalists voice was powerful and unique, but had to pop out of the club, and back up to a mates house for my camera, so unfortunately I missed most of the set.

The headlining act 'Ebony Bones' was what I was waiting for and this London based wonder woman certainly didn't disappoint!

Last week we featured the show's poster as the sites poster of the month, this week we sing the praises of the artists live performance.

Ebony Bones is a woman to be reckoned with, a stellar performer, full of energy, fire and spunk. A truly amazing vocalist that roars, screeches and whoops her way into your head and heart. Her backing band are just as fierce, doning brightly colored headgear and elaborate otherworldly costumes, dishing out synchronised dance moves with uniform flair.

When they broke out with the song Warrior the crowd went mental, bouncing about like loonies...This band are already making waves back home in the UK...it's only a matter of time before they blow up stateside.

It doesn't seem that long ago that we interviewed RQM about his sophomore solo release 'Barely Evil', a fierce digital drop that featured remixes by some top notch producers including Stereotyp, Bass Weazal & Filewile . Apparently the fella doesn't rest much, he's now based in Berlin (after spending a few years in Barcelona), and at the end of last month released 'Colors Fade', a collaboration with French street artist REMED.

Here's the skinny, RQM records a durrty song called 'Colors Fade', a tune about a boy meeting a girl and experiencing love from a K-hole (ketamin) influenced perspective. Said track is then remixed by Chris de Luca of CLP fame, The Glue Kids and JF. The collection is then released digitally with killah downloadable artwork created by Berlin based art collective - 44 Flavours, along with another super sick track called 'Atomic Fusion', produced by Siriusmo . The next joint to be added to the score is a brilliantly trippy remix of 'Atomic Fusion' by London based DJ, and producer Son Of Kick...So much goodness it hurts!

So where does the REMED collaboration come into play?

RQM enlisted the talents of one of his favorite street artists, REMED, to create a piece of art that depicts the artists take on the 'COLORS FADE' song.

100 limited edition 7" vinyls were then pressed of the single, one side Chris De Luca, the other Siriusmo. Carhartt sponsored the production of some deadly t-shirts...and an exclusive RQM treasure was born!

The release took place at the HHV flagship store in Berlin. The day
before RQM interviewed REMED. Here is what the French artist had to say about the concept that developed into the COLORS FADE mural -

REMED: "So....the idea for this COLORS FADE piece...it came out after long talks with you (RQM) about the songs and words....the idea is to tell the story of a human relation through love. Contrast, intensity, explosion, and the seed of the next contrast. So the painting is a chain of events in the love of two people. So in the painting u have at first the meeting of one man and one woman, both ready to meet and create love, or passion more than love...then after the meeting, the intensity of their will to share their life and love leads to the fusion of their soul and body creating a two headed one bodied character...love around them...but then the tension is getting high, too strong, the lightening comes to change the colors...and the body and soul split because of some inevitable choices to preserve the essence of these two souls afraid of losing themselves, afraid of becoming something diferent..but then the final step is when the man transfers his pain to the tree and gets some light back straight to his head...further on, there s part of the body of a woman, he don't know if her face will be the same or not, cause she's kind of hidden, she's here anyway, and there's an intense red way reaching a new door to open..he'll sure be able to give his heart again somewhere over there."
