Dub Gabriel - True electronic Dub Mash-up Master!
Artist: Dub Gabriel
Album: 'Anarchy & Alchemy'
Label: Indie

Dub Gabriel's sophomore release, was 2 years in the making and is nothing short of an eclectic treasure chest of diverse sounds, flavours snagged from all over the globe, masterfully stirred up and given his unique Dub flavour.
Gabriel's last release, 2005's 'Bass Jihad' received much attention from mainstream and indie media alike, a heavy bass drenched, cultural fusion of electronic musical genius. The album was virtually vocal free, and brimmed with influences from all over the world.
Unlike Gabriel's debut, the new record is thick with steller guest vocalists, legendary singers, and mc's rocking tracks along side equally deadly, on the rise talent.
It isn't often that such seriously diverse artists meld together so well on one record.
'Anarchy & Alchemy' begins with a dark and brooding track about mans obsession with money, 'Chasing The Paper' features vocals by Brooklyn's Jah Dan. The tune flows smoothly into the next track, a trippy reggae number with a 60's vibe entitled 'Spirit Made Flesh'. This tune carries the spoken word vocals of NYC based poet and singer Karen Gibson, it's truly hypnotic, a song swollen with reverb and lose yourself grooves.
Highlights for me include the atmospheric, 'La Vie S'envole' featuring Judith Juillerat's spoken vocals, a really beautiful track, calming and deep. The lyrics are in french, I'm pretty weak in this language at the best of times, so I'm not totally sure what she's talking about, but that's not an issue...she could be talking about chopping up little bunnies with a hacksaw and I'd be spun to heaven listening to this music... lost.
Another brilliant track on the other end of the audio spectrum is 'Run Down', which features the voices of New York's 'No Surrender'. Jarring electronic screeching, the heavy machinery drone of bass and smart, dark lyrics are top shelf on this song. 'No Surrender' are one of my favorite New York bands, so this is a real treat for me....if you don't know of them you should.
'Anarchy & Alchemy' is put to bed, tucked in tightly with a song featuring vocals by Michael Stipe (REM), soft hushed lyrics of love, pulsing drums, definite piano and soaring violins, make 'Cheree' a delicious song to lay to album to rest.
This album has is all...if you're a Basshead, theres something for you, if you're a Hip-hop-face there's goodness for you too, Dub-body? sorted, and if you're looking for something really different, emotionally charged and exciting, you must check this out.
Other guest artists featured on the record: Sami Yaffa (New York Dolls), Yo Majesty (Domino records), Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto), Dr. Israel, Kali Boom, Juakali, 77Klash.
